Demon
- In charge of punishing sinful souls
- People that do bad deeds during their life “dirty” or “stain” the soul. The stain persists after death. Through torture, demons scrub the soul of the stain. They only want a clean soul to be revived. Once clean, the soul is given back to the angels for reviving.
- Creatures of chaos, but not destructive chaos (Entropy)
- If Angels are order, Demons are chaos
- Not in direct opposition to angels. Angels and demons are family—both created by the Old Gods to ensure residents of The Tower can live a good life. The nature of Angels (drive for order) leads them to feel natural repulsion towards Demons in the way siblings squabble with each other, but they ultimately care deeply for each other.
- Religious texts misconstrue this relationship so residents may perceive angels as “good” and demons “bad”
- Unlike angels, they lack a hierarchy as creatures of chaos. The very existence of a hierarchy implies order. Fall into a “domain” of the 7 sins instead & different demon species. Some species are more common to some domains (incubi/succubi to lust, maw demons to gluttony)
7 Sins
The first seven demons created by the Old Gods. Exemplify their given trait. Closest with angels and see the 7 virtues as siblings.
Identical passing process as angels except it happens less often as the demon penchant for chaos allows them to withstand the hold of time more. “The transference of sin” festival. A hectic, chaotic festival instead of ordered, extravagant ceremony.
